Spread Joy This Christmas

Big family gatherings may be off the table this Christmas, and parties and pantos postponed, but Christmas can still be magical and memorable. Here are 7 ways to spread a little festive cheer with or without a home full of family and friends.

1 Decorate your door

Christmas 2020 may be low-key but that doesn’t mean your decorations can’t be OTT. Just as rainbows and teddies have been filling windows and spreading joy, a festive window or door can go a long way to lifting your spirits and those of passers-by. 2 Create a show-stopping table

Christmas is a feast for the senses and a gorgeous table setting is a must. Whether it’s a meal for one or a party of six, dressing up your dining table can’t help but put you in the Christmas spirit. Read our guide to styling your Christmas table  for a festive table to rival any 5* luxury hotel.

3 Create a winter-ready retreat

Nothing beats the feeling of snuggling up under a duvet on a cold winter’s night. To amp up the cosiness, don some pajamas (we love Desmond & Dempsey), fluffy slippers, a plush bathrobe and a stylish faux fur throw . Read our guide on how to get a cosy hygge bedroom for more tips and tricks on creating your own luxury hotel at home.

4 Get in the Christmas spirit

There’s more to Christmas than mulled wine and Baileys Irish cream. For a drink less cliched, shake up a gingerbread martini, a warm apple Pimms or experiment with flavours and create your own signature drink. For cocktail inspo see #festivecocktails on Instagram.

5 Don some festive nails

Put the jingle back into Christmas with an at-home manicure full of frivolous festive fun. From a red mani to a sparkly ombre design, who cares if no-one can see them, they’ll instantly put you in the holiday mood.

6 Fill the home with flowers

Flowers add colour, life and cheer to the home even on the chilliest of days. For hardy
Christmas-inspired plants, think poinsettias, Christmas cactus or a potted conifer in place of a Christmas tree. Alternatively, drape some fairy lights over your favourite houseplants for an instant Christmassy feel.

7 Phone a friend

Helping others can help us feel happier, and make our lives feel more purposeful. An act of kindness can also give us the ‘warm fuzzies’ by activating the reward centre in the brain. Whether it’s calling a friend, a family member or a neighbour via an initiative such as LoveYourNeighbour, giving your time can bring more joy than any Christmas present.

Lastly, don’t forget to plan ahead. With shoppers flocking online as social distancing restrictions remain in place, there’ll be no chance for a mad day-before dash if you want gifts to arrive on time.
