International Women’s Day: An Interview with Managing Director Catherine Morris

Being a female leader holds immense significance in today’s world. It’s not just about breaking the glass ceiling or achieving professional success; it’s about creating a positive impact, fostering collaboration, and inspiring others.

On this International Women’s Day, we chat with Catherine Morris, our Managing Director, about what being a female leader means to her.

Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming Managing Director at Tradelinens?

My journey has been a dynamic one. After joining Tradelinens from FMCG giants Nestle, I stepped into the role of Marketing Director. During my tenure, I spearheaded the creation of the Tielle retail brand and established a successful e-commerce revenue stream. Witnessing the ever-evolving hospitality industry over the past decade, I’ve navigated challenges and growth. The last 4 years, marked by the pandemic, tested even seasoned managing directors, and it was indeed a baptism of fire. Tradelinens and Tielle continue to thrive though, in no small part thanks to a formidable and experienced team, with a passion to adapt and grow.

This years IWD theme is ‘Invest In Women’, can you tell us a bit about the training and support Tradelinens invests in for its female employees?

As a female-led team with over 70% female staff, we take pride in investing in our employees. Our commitment extends beyond mere words. We offer days off to celebrate birthdays, provide coaching and training opportunities, and foster a strong mentoring ethos. Hybrid working arrangements and part-time work patterns ensure flexibility and support for our team members. As headline sponsors for the trailblazing Boutique Hotelier “Women in Hotels”, an event in it’s second year now which celebrates and encourages the success of women in hospitality, we are delighted to be further extending our investment in women.

What gets you up in the morning?

My children usually get me out of bed! But beyond that, my passion for beautiful home textiles, especially the highest quality bedlinen and towels, fuels my drive. Working at Tradelinens allows me to legitimise this obsession and contribute to our brand’s continued success.

What has been your proudest moment since taking over at Tradelinens?

Thriving during the pandemic has been a significant achievement. Additionally, witnessing the growth of our team—despite the challenges—fills me with immense pride.

What is your favourite part of your job?

Creating and curating exceptional products that enhance people’s lives—whether it’s the comfort of our linens or the aesthetics of our designs—is my favourite aspect.

Describe an average day for you?

My day begins and ends with Tradelinens products. From waking up in luxurious bedlinen to winding down with soft towels, you could say they’re woven into my routine. In between, I collaborate with our team and ensure our brand continues to thrive. Then head home to support with the children’s homework and enviable social schedule.

Where is the craziest place you’ve slept?

I once slept in mud-hut in an elephant sanctuary in the jungle in India. While it wasn’t the most comfortable night’s sleep I’ve ever had, it was probably the most magical.

What helps you sleep at night?

Knowing that Tradelinens contributes to comfort and quality for others helps me rest peacefully. And perhaps a touch of chamomile tea doesn’t hurt either!
