3. Refresh Pillows and Protectors
Spring and summer are peak allergy seasons, so it’s worth taking a moment to refresh your pillow protectors and consider switching to anti-allergy pillow fillings if you’re sensitive.
- Wash pillow and mattress protectors at 60°C to remove allergens and dust mites.
- Consider replacing any pillows that are more than 2 years old or no longer spring back when fluffed.
- Alternatively, get your pillows professionally cleaned to remove any allergens that might be in the fibres.
Bonus Tip: Change your pillowcases as often as possible. Pollen and other allergens can be carried into your bedroom on your hair or clothes. If this is transferred to your pillowcases or pillows, it can trigger allergies during the night, which in turn can cause trouble sleeping.
4. Add Layers for Versatility
The UK is infamous for its unpredictable weather. Adding a lightweight throw or blanket at the end of the bed not only elevates the look of your bed, but also allows you to layer warmth on those cooler nights.
Be sure to choose breathable materials like linen or brushed cotton, as these will help promote airflow and prevent overheating.
5. Deep Clean & Rotate
Take the changing seasons as an opportunity to give your bedroom a deep clean:
- Wash duvets and pillows (or have them professionally cleaned).
- Rotate your mattress for even wear.
- Air out your bedroom by opening windows on dry days.
- If you haven’t already, invest in pillow and mattress protectors to increase the lifespan of your products.
